  • Sony A1 Firmware 2.02: A New Update Experience
  • Updating my Sony A1 to firmware version 2.02 was a surprisingly different experience than previous updates. Here's how it went.
  • A Departure from the Norm

Having owned the Sony A1 since its release, I've become accustomed to the usual firmware update routine. However, updating to version 2.02 threw me a bit of a curveball.

    The Update Process

Instead of the usual download and installation process via the camera's menu, this update required a detour to Sony's website. This change, while initially unexpected, streamlined the process. The instructions were clear, guiding me to download the update file to my computer.

    A Seamless Installation

With the file downloaded, the next step was to connect my camera to the computer. This is where it got interesting. The software automatically recognized the new firmware and initiated the update. The entire process was smooth and efficient, leaving no room for confusion.

    Notable Improvements

Beyond the updated installation process, firmware version 2.02 brought with it several enhancements. Most notably, it addressed an issue where the camera might not function properly when using the SEL200600G lens. Additionally, it improved the camera's overall operational stability, promising a more reliable shooting experience.

    Final Thoughts

While the initial change in the update process caught me off guard, I quickly came to appreciate the new approach. The streamlined process, combined with the performance improvements, make this update a worthy addition to the Sony A1's firmware.

"The new update process, while initially unexpected, proved to be a more streamlined and efficient way to keep my Sony A1 up-to-date," I remarked, reflecting on the experience.
